Playing Catch-Up

My last post was July 3rd and now it is July 15th - wow! It is hard to believe that we have been on the road for over a month - 38 days as of today. Rick and I have been posting some photos on FB but it really is hard to keep up the blog. Here is a little recap...

July 4th - 9th we were still hanging in MD. Got my blue crabs fix, got to see lots of friends, enjoy hanging out at Willow Oaks new tasting room. Left lots of art to decorate the walls. If you are in Middletown, MD go check it out and who knows you may find a piece of art to take home. Along with my art, there is work by friends: Marilu, Tracy, Homer, Christopher and Lisa. Don't forget to try the cider.

Almost forgot on our last evening in MD we had a lovely moon-rise.

July 10th - headed back on the road, car loaded, destination Columbus, OH with a lunch break at Rocky Gap State Park. Once we got back on the road, it rained and rained. Finally let up as we got ready to stop for the evening.

July 11th We drove through IN in the rain, lots of wind and rain. Got to Bloomington - Normal, IL. It again stopped raining as we got into town. Not the greatest adventure, and we discovered there was a train track right across from the hotel. Yes, it did run through the night.

July 12th A little more rain, arrived in Madison, WI around lunch time. Yet again, the rain stopped. Had lunch in a local pub and walked around farmers market, the state capital and checked out the Frank Lloyd Wright influences. Went to a free concert on the capital lawn that evening with dinner via food trucks. It was hot and humid but nice evening.

July 13th Still in Madison, WI went tot he Botanical Gardens, lovely way to spend the morning. Went to Ale Asylum for lunch, drove around neighborhoods along the water. Flowers are in bloom everywhere and with all the rain, it is very green. Tried out a local Distillery, Old Sugar, did a tasting and after dinner at Thai restaurant went back for cocktails to end out stay in Madison.

Last stop in Madison
July 14th We changed up our plans, we headed to Wausau, WI. I wanted to go to Leigh Yawkee Woodson Art Museum, home of one of the best bird exhibitions in the country. It was wonderful to finally get there, very inspirational. They have a ceramics exhibit with photographs of the inspirational area that inspired the pieces. The permanent collection of bird art was on exhibit, the outside sculptures filled the spaces in-between the gardens and trees.

This was just the beginning of the day, after lunch we checked out the local downtown square. Finding lots of shops, newly renovated art center that use to be a bank and chalk festival was just getting set up for the weekend. Friday evening at the airport were bi-planes, hot air balloons and ribs. This event would go on till Sunday. We were happy that we kept the little blanket we generally have in the car just for those moments when you want to have a picnic or watch hot air balloons do a glow show. Another great way to end a stay in Wausau, WI.

July 15th Saturday and we are back tracking a bit, we want to go up along the peninsula starting at Green Bay. So, we did a short drive eastward, tomorrow we go north, then south and will be kind of parallel to Green Bay but on the other side at Kewaunee.

Today, we went over to the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary. The wildlife that is there can not be released back into the wild as they have been injured. It is a bit sad to see but they have a nice place to keep them safe. Rick did a little extra exploring to find the Packers Stadium.

This brings you up to date on Rick and Linda's grand adventures across North America. More to come....
