One More Time

This Saturday, will do it, one more time this year. A public mural at the Desert Ridge Marketplace. I will be there from 10:00 - 5:00 creating an environmental work reflecting the wildlife of Arizona. If you are in the area come on by and see all the artist working their magic.

Doing this type of art is interesting. You need to be focused so that you can complete the piece in one day. Yet, you need to be engage with the public as this is in it's way a performance piece. You are entertaining the public, educating them about pastel, art, design, environment and more.

You need to be prepared, the artists have to submit their ideas for the mural in advance. I bring the original sketch, print out reference photos, extra pastels, pastel pencils, and blending tools. The SAACA does provide materials but there are always a few extra special tools that each artists likes to use while creating.

Make sure you have protection for your knees, lots of water, lunch, snacks, a hat to protect you from the sun and light weight long sleeve shirt - again sun. Being mindful of your body as you work is important. Take breaks, get up walk around, always good to step back from your work. Have business cards, postcards and additional images of your work. You never know what opportunities may come your way.

Next week I will post the latest mural. Until then maybe a few reference photos as a tease.
