Dia de los Muertos

Day of the Dead, those spirits that have left us are said to come visit from October 31 and leave by November 2. It is a tradition in Mexico and Southwestern states to celebrate those memories, honor those we loved and are no longer with us by sharing in special meals. Alters are created to show death that even though it is always near, it may be feared but memories make us strong.

As we give out treats tonight, we will enjoy a bowl of chili and some cornbread, in memory of my Mom, who taught me to cook. Cards have been sent to those far away to let them know we are thinking of them, in memory of my Mother-in-law, as she never missed a birthday or holiday. We will honor those special people whose spirits have passed ahead.
