In Search of Sandhill Cranes

Last year I wanted to see the sandhill cranes but it did not happen. So, I started a list that said things to do in 2013. Top of the list see the cranes. They are only in AZ during the winter, from around late November to early March. They come in by the thousands, estimated at about 30,000 with 90% of them in Sulphur Springs Valley, southeast AZ. The White Water Draw is a protected area purchased by the Game & Fish Department in 1995 to protect and enhance this wildlife habitat.

These cranes come from as far away as Siberia. They are gray, with a red crowned head as adults, long legs, long neck and very vocal.
I have uploaded a short video so you can hear these interesting birds. And of course a few more pictures to finish my quest of finding sandhill cranes. Next need to do some drawings!
